Barry Murry (born Barry Richard Murry) (b. July 7, 1951 - d. October 15, 2001) was a game designer, programmer, and graphic artist for Evryware, the main developer of the Manhunter series.

Early Life[]

Barry Murry was born on July 20, 1951 to Richard and Erma Murry at Chehalis, Lewis County, Washington. He spent his early years growing up in Walla Walla and Sumner before the Murrys moved to the Long Beach Peninsula. He graduated from Ilwaco High School in 1969. After completing the air traffic control program, he attended Green River Community College and began working for the FAA.

Career[]

Barry worked in several airports in Washington and Oregon as an air traffic controller. He changed careers in 1981 to work in the field of computer technology. He then joined Evryware, video game company formed by his brother Dave Murry and Joe Gargiulo. They began developing games CPM home computers before moving on to the IBM PC. He provide animation for Sierra Championship Boxing in 1985, and he both designed and programmed The Ancient Art of War at Sea for 1987 for Broderbund Software.

The darkly themed Manhunter: New York was published by Sierra On-Line in 1988, with Manhunter 2: San Francisco following up soon after in mid 1989.

In the early 1990s, Evryware created several games for MicroProse: 1992's The Ancient Art of War in the Skies, and 1994's SpaceKids. This game was followed by Space Dude in 1996.

In his later years, he got involved the music industry with the creation of Great Big Island Records.

Death[]

Barry Murry passed away on October 15, 2001, with the memorial service being held six days later at the United Churches of Olympia.[1] He is survived by his wife Kathy of 25 years, and sons Matthew and Michael.
